HSMAI Presents Adrienne Davis-brody With Distinguished Al Bard Award
Monday 20 March 2006
McLean, VA | The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), an organization of sales and marketing professionals representing all segments of the hospitality industry, presented Adrienne Davis-Brody, president, ADB Marketing Communications, with the 2006 Al Bard Award.
The prestigious award, created in 1986, recognizes contributions made by individuals who play a significant role in HSMAI’s Adrian Awards competition, the largest in the hospitality industry.
“HSMAI’s Adrian Awards have been successful because of the individuals who have dedicated their time and energy to our development,” said Neil W. Ostergren, CHME and consultant who has been involved with the awards program since 1969. “We recognize and appreciate their commitment and hope that others will follow their examples and strive to contribute to HSMAI and the travel industry.”
Davis-Brody joins 17 outstanding individuals who have received this distinction.
“Being recognized by HSMAI--both friends and colleagues-- is truly one of the highlights of my career,” explained Davis-Brody. “Working on a committee can be wonderfully rewarding when all the members share the same goal.”
“The Adrian Awards program is comprised of hard working and dedicated marketing professionals all supporting each other,” she added.
Her involvement with the Adrian Awards began in 1980 when she was VP, associate director of marketing for Sheraton Hotels Worldwide. During this time, she attended conferences and entered the award competitions. She left the industry in 1989 and became re-involved five years ago. For the past four years, she has been the project manager for the HSMAI Adrian Awards.
The Adrian Awards recognizes and rewards the very best of hospitality and travel advertising, marketing materials, public relations and website design and development. It embraces every segment of the industry --hotels and resorts, airlines, cruise lines, car rental companies, destinations, credit card companies and more, and it is the largest travel-related competition of its kind in the world.
As project manager, one of her contributions to the Adrian Awards has been moving the entry process online. With entries steadily increasing and becoming more difficult to manage, the online process has allowed HSMAI to grow globally. This year, there were more than 1,200 entries received from 35 countries.
For the past five years, Davis-Brody has been president of her own firm, ADB Marketing Communications. Some of her key clients are Nantucket Island Resorts, with six properties on Nantucket Island including the award-winning White Elephant and The Wauwinet, as well as Woodstock Inn & Resort and Langham Hotel, Boston. In addition, her firm most recently is working on such projects as the repositioning of au bon pain’s suburban restaurant concept and the Starwood Worldwide incentive program.
Her previous experiences include: Vice President, Vacation Outlet, leading retail travel agency in New England and premier on-line provider of travel packages for Yahoo!, Travelocity, Expedia and AOL; Executive Vice President, Irma. S. Mann Strategic Marketing; Senior Vice President, WellsPark Group, formerly the largest independent shopping center development and management company in the U.S. prior to being sold to Simon Property Group; Vice President, Director of Marketing, Sheraton Hotels North America; and national advertising coordinator, Subaru of America.
Past recipients of the Al Bard Award include: Al Bard (1986), Cass Folis (1987), Peter Warren, CHME (1988), Gary Leopold, CHME (1990), Neil W. Ostergren, CHME (1991), William R. How Hotel Guests Perceive the Fairness of Differential Room Pricing
View publication »
When customers perceived hotel revenue management practices to be fair, they are more likely to be satisfied with the hotel and are more likely to return to that hotel in the future. In this survey of 815 people, we examined the effects of three factors on the respondents' assessment of the fairness of hotel rate policies. Those three factors were familiarity with the practice, provision of information about the practice, and the brand class of the hotel. Of those three, we found that familiarity with a pricing practice was far and away the most important factor affecting perceived fairness. The implication is that revenue managers should focus their efforts on increasing guests' familiarity with their pricing practices. (PDF Document)
