Solís Cambrian Hotel & Spa Re-Brands as The Cambrian

The Cambrian

As of 16 November 2009, Solís Cambrian Hotel & Spa in Adelboden, Switzerland is re-branding and will simply be known as The Cambrian, A Member of Design Hotels.

Despite the name change and new marketing association with Design Hotels, the property will continue to be managed by The West Paces Hotel Group, the luxury hotel management group established by Horst Schulze, ex-CEO of The Ritz-Carlton, which owns the Capella Hotels and Resorts and Solís Hotels and Resorts brands and also manages a number of independent properties like The Cambrian.

According to Robert Warman, President and COO of West Paces, “From the moment the owners bought the hotel, they wanted it to become an unique property. Now, because of the great job that they did with the design and thanks to the hotel’s success, that dream has become a reality. West Paces looks forward to continuing to operate and support The Cambrian through its next stage of development.”

Added the Welsh owners Chris Nott, Chris Maunder and Craig Maunder, “West Paces has done an excellent job of managing our hotel during its first two years. Before opening, we had extensive discussions about whether to operate as an independent and this issue has been under constant review. In the meantime, West Paces has helped us refine and define the distinct personality of The Cambrian to the point where we all agree it would better stand out from the crowd operating under its own name and style.

“The combination of an iconic Swiss building, Adelboden’s stunning location, the very contemporary refurbishment and our Welsh heritage was always going to result in a unique property. Together with West Paces, we identified Design Hotels, with its ‘Made by Originals’ theme, as the ideal marketing partner and we look forward to a close collaboration with both companies in the creation of a truly wonderful venue for those visiting the Swiss Alps.”

As an independent hotel, The Cambrian will be able to blend more seamlessly into its surroundings. With honesty and authenticity as core values at The Cambrian, the focus will be on using more and more local produce and products; fresh regional food is to be offered in all the F&B outlets, while wood and slate from the Bernese Oberland give the hotel interiors a “gemütlich” (snug, cosy) feel with a modern touch.

But it doesn’t stop there. To deliver unforgettable Alpine guest experiences, The Cambrian gets out there and develops a relationship between its guests and the destination by offering a wide range of personalised and unique activities, such as visits to local suppliers or guided walks and mountain bike tours. On a weekly basis, these tours are led by a senior member of the management team, so that they can truly fulfil their role as host. These events will allow guests of The Cambrian to truly embrace the spirit of the nature that surrounds the hotel and Adelboden itself.

In the hotel itself, The Cambrian will introduce small, but significant changes that provide a more personal touch, such as the provision of “Cambrian cookies” throughout a guest’s stay, the Cambrian Hour (when free cakes are served every afternoon) and woollen blankets on the terrace, so that guests can simply snuggle up and admire the stunning views. The fact that the hotel has just 71 rooms (including 24 suites) means that The Cambrian is able to offer these excellent levels of personalised service.

Best Practices for Hotel Websites Analytics
HSMAI and Vizergy White Paper, Written by Tim Peter. Hotel marketers face many challenges in using analytics. But most common among these may be knowing where to begin. While powerful tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Omniture SiteCatalyst and Webtrends exist to help marketers understand their marketing activities, many hotel marketers struggle with separating the wheat from the chaff and zeroing in on the information that matters most. As one director of marketing noted, “Sometimes you get into the analytics and you can’t get out, so I try not to get too hung up in the minutia of the data.” (PDF Document, 2,070.66 KB)
